ST. LOUIS CELEBRATES THE ART OF FILM

ST. LOUIS -- October 28, 2008 -- Cinemania returns to the Gateway City with the 17th Annual St. Louis International Film Festival (SLIFF), November 13-23. The fest, which includes works from more than 75 filmmakers, will screen more than 260 documentaries, shorts and feature films in 136 programs, from 38 countries.

St. Louis has seen its share of hometown heroes who went on to Hollywood stardom. Movie stars who hailed from the Gateway City include a cast of legendary and contemporary actors, including:  Cedric "The Entertainer;" Kyles ("Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins," "Street Kings"); John Goodman ("The Big Lebowski," "Evan Almighty"); Betty Grable ("My Blue Heaven," "How to Marry a Millionaire"); Kevin Kline ("The Big Chill," "Sophie's Choice"); Marsha Mason ("The Goodbye Girl," "Chapter Two"); Vincent Price ("The Masque of the Red Death," "Pit and the Pendelum"); Harold Ramis ("Stripes," "Ghostbusters"); and Shelley Winters ("The Poseidon Adventure," "The Diary of Anne Frank").

Check out these and other famous St. Louisans along the St. Louis Walk of Fame (http://www.stlouiswalkoffame.org/) in The Loop neighborhood. The bronze stars and informational plaques, which line Delmar Boulevard, offer information on more than 100 celebrated St. Louisans who achieved fame as entertainers, scientists, writers, athletes, and teachers.

SLIFF's primary venues for the 11-day festival will be the Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, The Loop); Plaza Frontenac Cinema (Plaza Frontenac, Lindbergh Boulevard and Clayton Road); Saint Louis Art Museum (1 Fine Arts Drive, Forest Park); and Webster University's Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood Avenue, Webster Groves).

Additional programs taking place at additional venues include the "Humboldt County" After Party, Thursday, November 13 (Mandarin, 44 Maryland Plaza); Children's Film Symposium, Saturday, November 22 (Washington University, Brown Hall Auditorium); and the Closing Night Party at 8 p.m. Sunday, November 23 (The Duck Room, Blueberry Hill, 6504 Delmar Boulevard).
